Sunday marked the beginning of a new era in Ironton football as Mark Vass was named the new head coach of the Fighting Tigers.

Vass replaces legendary Hall of Fame coach Bob Lutz, who retired earlier this month as Ohio's all time win leader.

A 1992 graduate of Ironton High, Coach Vass was a two-year starting quarterback and member of the 1989 state championship team. His college career included stops at Marshall University and Baldwin Wallace College - where he was the starting quarterback for one year.

His coaching career includes seven years as assistant coach at Ironton High School. Prior to IHS, Vass was an assistant at Portsmouth West High School, Marietta College, Heidelberg College, Otterbein College, Iona College and Cuyahoga Heights High School.
